corn gluten feed
Corn Gluten Feed (CGF) is a valuable byproduct of the normal corn milling process for starch and then ethanol production.
CGF is a good source of protein, energy, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and other nutrients. Being particularly high in phosphorus, CGF can be used to replace more costly sources of protein, while also effectively replacing Corn and serving as a source of supplemental fibre.
CGF is a key ingredient in ruminant feed mixes, especially beef and dairy cattle. It has relatively high fibre, medium protein and energy, and is often substituted for high starch grains as it helps prevent acidosis due to its lower starch content.
For pig feeds, CGF is applicable as part of the feed mix in growth stages of lower energy dietary requirements, due to its higher dietary fibre and so lower digestible energy value compared to Corn.
For poultry feeds, CGF is more applicable for layers tahn broilers due to layers' lower energy requirements.
For fish feeds targeting certain fish species, CGF inclusion has been shown positive results in palatability and feed efficiency.
For determining the required feed mix for the growth stage of the target animal or fish species, a qualified animal nutritionist should be consulted.
