Soybeans originated in China and are a major source of protein in animal feed mixes due to their superior protein content 42-48% and balanced mix of amino acids, complementary to corn meal for feed formulation.

Corn is commonly used directly in feed mixes to provide the main energy content. However when Corn is processed, its residue after ethanol distillation (as with DDGS) or byproduct after the Corn milling process (as with CGM and CGF) can become a good protein source combined with highly digestible fibre.
